Even in a time where Atlantic City casinos are struggling to stay alive, they very rarely begrudge their big winners. However, the Atlantic City Tropicana casino must surely have wished that one high roller had stayed at home this time.

The player collected winnings of just less than £3.5 million during his trip to the Tropicana in April and helped the casino into the unwanted position of the worst performing Atlantic City casino. While it wasn’t solely down to the lucky blackjack player, taking that amount of money from a casino is never helpful to them.

The player had been playing at the new big stakes table games that had been introduced in order to increase revenues. The spectacular backfire that took place is rumoured to be the reason for the Tropicana’s outgoing CEO Mark Giannantonio’s departure. However, he claimed that this strategy was not the reason for his exit and simply claimed: “We ran very unlucky.” In this case it’s certainly possible that one man’s misery was very much another man’s gain!
