Calvin Ayre
No matter whether you’re based in the United States or the UK, you’ll have heard a lot about bankers over the past few months. Whether it’s Freddie and Fannie buying toxic assets, or Northern Rock crumbling; we all know the stories about banker’s big fat pay cheques and bonuses, which they willing accepted while the banks were allegedly falling apart around them.
While the furore around bankers has ground to halt, the financial details of quite a few casino bosses have now surfaced. Don’t get us wrong, we know that the people who own casinos are no doubt rich…That’s one of the benefits of the job after all. Until recently though, we wouldn’t be able to see the homes of these casino bigwigs and find out what their collection of Persian rugs and antiques is really worth.
Back in March we reported that Calvin Ayre was cutting his ties in Canada by selling his luxury condo for $10 million. Ayre’s condo contains "6-and-a-half baths, private outdoor decks, a 360-degree view, a 25-foot-high living room ceiling, a 1,200-bottle wine cellar, a panic room, three parking spaces, and comes completely furnished." If you’re interested in Ayre’s condo (it still hasn’t sold), you can take a virtual tour here.
Similarly, Steve Wynn, who’s just split with his wife, has put his “prewar Condo Perfection” on East 61st Street, New York, up for sale, for $25,000,000. The condo features furniture which is apparently worth $4 million and Wynn allegedly reckons he can make quite a return on the property. If you fancy checking out Wynn’s local neighbourhood, through the magic of Google Maps, you can check out his street.
So, with these two huge figures in the gambling industry practically announcing part of their worth online, we have to wonder; are casino bosses still loaded? After all, both Wynn and Ayre are trying to sell their properties (the latter with very little success), could this be a sign of hard times in the industry? Well, while pit bosses and dealers at Wynn’s casino, who are currently in court over the company reducing their tips, may be feeling the recession, it’s that the likes of unlikely Steve Wynn and Calvin Ayre ever will.
