It seems like there's a trend for bizarre gambling related news at the moment. Just a few days after we brought you the story about sumo wrestlers betting on baseball, the gambling town of Black Hawk in Colorado has passed a law prohibiting cyclists from travelling through the town.

Black Hawk, which is home to casino resorts such as the Ameristar Casino and Hotel and the Isle of Capri Hotel and Casino, began enforcing the new law earlier this month and serving $68 tickets. The new legislation states that cyclists travelling through Black Hawk must dismount from their bicycles, or face a fine.

However, cycling activists, such as Dan Grunig of Bicycle Colorado, have suggested they will challenge the biking prohibition. Speaking to Associated Press, Grunig suggested that they don't believe the ban is "right or legal", noting that they "want to make sure it's addressed before its spread any further".

Black Hawk City Manager, Michael Copp, has suggested that eight fines have been issued so far and noted that the new restriction isn't because of any accidents. Instead, the bicycle prohibition was passed because of the "conflicts" between cyclists and motorists both trying to use streets originally "designed for horses and carriages."

Do you think Black Hawk's cycling ban is a step too far. Or do you believe it’s okay for officials to enforce legislation which could aid residents using the streets? If you have an opinion on our Black Hawk story, please do leave a comment.
