An Asian hacker has been lining his (or her) own pockets from accounts belonging to affiliate marketers, diverting commission payments and causing widespread panic.
Affiliates directing traffic for casinos that are powered by Rival are among the most affected, with Tropica Casino Affiliates making a statement last Thursday: They confirmed that foul play was taking place after carrying out an extensive investigation following reports of underpayments from numerous affiliates, with the hacker changing payment details after accessing accounts to claim thousands of cash payments as their own.
Rival have reacted with preventative measures, ensuring that affiliates' email addresses can no longer be edited, and emailing affiliates when any changes are made to their accounts.
Any account detail changes will also be notified to affiliate managers, and password requests will be routed through Rival's back office for greater control.
Unfortunately these changes will only stop similar problems from arising in the future and won't help to find the culprit, who has yet to be caught. All affiliates are therefore advised to take extra care and keep an eye on their payments to make sure they're not being short-changed, and also to check that their account details have not been altered or accessed without their knowledge.
