Casino executives have commented that the key to the recovery of the gambling industry may lie with adopting new technology. In particular, executives have highlighted the recent trend of mobile gaming in the UK, suggesting that casino’s in the U.S could achieve similar success with this format. According to Alex Kelly, the vice president with interactive at International Game Technology (IGT), the company is “seeing staggering growth...(of) 150 percent month to month growth online”.

However, Kelly has suggested that while mobile gaming has enjoyed phenomenal success in the UK, casino operators wouldn’t be able to instantly replicate this growth in the US, due to legal issues. Discussing potential regulation in the US, the Chief Executive Officer at Cantor Gaming, Lee Amaitis has proposed that he expects mobile gaming will be legalised within the next two years. Amaitis also noted that operators “can learn from the U.K. how to regulate and tax mobile gambling”.
