Before now, casino players looking to check out the Empire State Building and some of New York's other landmarks in between a spot of casino gambling would have had to head to Las Vegas. However that could soon change, as the state of New York is looking to legalise all forms of casinos.

This means that rather than just aboriginal-operated casinos and slot machines at horseracing tracks, New York casino fans will be able to gamble in any commercial casino.

This announcement was made by New York governor Andrew Cuomo who added that his administration were actively looking into the legalisation of full-scale gambling.

Mr Cuomo added: "It's really not an issue anymore of 'Well, if we don’t officially sanction it as a government, it's not going to happen.'"

There are currently five Indian casinos in the state of New York, but they would face severe competition should these plans go ahead. The state currently earns $684 million from gambling, all though all of this comes from the slots based at racecourses. The legalisation of commercial casinos would see this figure increase dramatically and provide much needed funds for New York.

Unsurprisingly Genting New York, part of the Genting group that operates Circus Casino, has backed these plans. The casino company has revealed that should commercial casinos be legalised then they would look to build a casino at the Aqueduct racetrack where they already operate more than 4,000 slot machines.
