All being well, 2012 should see at least one momentous occasion. That will be the second coming of online casinos to the United States.
This second coming will first take shape in Washington DC where DC Lottery are putting the wheels in motion to launch a completely legal and state-run online casino.
Originally the casino was going to make use of DC-Net – a high speed network which carries critical information regarding the government and public safety issues. However, Buddy Roogow, DC Lottery's director, announced that this system will not be used. No more information regarding what system would be used was given away but Roogow did reassure casino players of the safety of the DC casino.
He said: "We feel we've found other ways to secure the system in terms of intra-jurisdictional play."
As alluded to by Roogow, the importance of a secure network is high as the online casino will only be able to run within the city's borders. If it is found to be accepted bets from outside of Washington DC then the federal government may step in and shut down the casino.
This certainly would be a shame as online casino fans in the area would be deprived of the blackjack, roulette, poker and slot games that they would so dearly miss.
