Online gamblers are missing out on £960 million a year due to favouring usability and looks over the odds given according to a recent study.
The study, which mainly applies to sports betting, was conducted by Populus and found that 74% of those asked would place bets at a site that looked good and was easy to use. On the other hand just 65% would only place a bet if they thought that it was the best price available.
The poll was commissioned by Bet Butler whose director Nigel Seeley has been speaking about the results.
He said: "Gamblers are currently opting for less hassle over winning substantially more."
As said above, these figures are primarily referring to sports betting, however they could be similar for online casino players. For example, many slots players may choose a slot they're familiar with or one with a theme they recognise despite the payout not being quite as high as other slots.
The favouring of less profitable odds may even extend to table and card games. By nature some games such as blackjack are more likely to payout than others.
However, it appears that the chance of winning tends not to be the most important factor when selecting a game to play. Many would opt for a few spins of the roulette wheel over some pai gow poker. So next time you're in an online casino lobby, try to find a game that strikes a balance between entertainment and profits.
