There have been many ways that people have tried to steal money from casinos. From simply grabbing some money and walking out to more elaborate scams involving inside dealers and even Ocean's Eleven type schemes, there's been no shortage of ways players have tried to get one over on the casino.
However, we're not sure that there's ever been a scam quite like this one. It involves three Italian players, winnings of £55,000 and some contact lenses. The casino involved is Princes Casino in Cannes, France and was the venue that handed out big wins to the Italians on two separate occasions.
The first day of play resulted in a win of £38,000 for their group while their second trip provided them with £17,500 and all this money came from playing stud poker against the croupier.
The players are reported to have had two French accomplices who marked the back of cards with invisible ink. The symbols put on the cards told the players what card it was and gave them an extra edge. They then wore special contact lenses so that only they could see the symbols and take advantage of the extra information.
The group were arrested after their second trip to the Princes Casino and are expected to be trialled in France.
