Media Corporation announced at the end of last week that they have sold their stand out domain name - Gambling.com – to an unnamed buyer.

The sale was worth £1.5 million, just a fraction of the price that Media Corporation paid for the domain back in 2005 which was £12.1 million. This is the second high profile domain name in the last year to be sold for a much lower price than it was bought for following the sale of Slots.com to online casino operator BoDog.

The principle reason for this is simply that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act which was imposed in the US in 2006 has limited the potential income of online gambling sites in the US. Both these sales were brokered by Sedo, a domain marketplace. CSO at Sedo, Liesbeth Mack-de-Boer, said despite the loss: “The price paid is a real confidence booster for the global domain industry.
