Las Vegas Mayor, Oscar Goodman, has announced that the city will be working with Hara, an energy efficiency firm, to help control and audit Sin City’s power use. Goodman has announced that the Nevada city “is striving to build a more sustainable community”, as well as hoping to save money through increased energy efficiency. It’s believed Hara will provide Las Vegas officials with an analysis of the power consumed in the city, as well as information on how both residents and businesses can reduce their energy usage.

In recent years, residents in Las Vegas and casino operators have been busy reducing the carbon footprint. Earlier this year, Vegas businesses took part in Earth Hour – which saw all the lights on the Las Vegas Strip dimmed, in an effort to raise awareness about climate change. Casino companies such as MGM Resorts International have also been improving their green credentials, by installing “lighting occupancy sensors” in hotel rooms in the CityCenter resort, as well as looking at long term strategies to reduce carbon emissions.
