A number of new casinos and licenses are cropping up all over the UK. With the Playboy Club opening last week, the Hippodrome due to open later this year and large casino licenses planned for Newham and Dublin, casinos are certainly the flavour of the month.
One of the latest plans may be struggling to come to fruition, however as objections toward it grow. The would-be casino is being planned by Grosvenor, who want to create a £6 million casino at Marine Point, New Brighton.
Among the objectors to these casino plans are the Wirral Churches Together organisation, who have said that they are scared about the potential impact of a casino on vulnerable people. Rev Arnold Dixon added: “We put in the objection because people who might get involved in something that could lead to a downward spiral.”
He argued that the area seems to be a place for families and that the casino wasn’t in keeping with the rest of the project.
The project to redevelop Marine Point has cost £60 million to date and is nearing completion. A decision about the casino will be made by June 22.
