Solihull Council has announced that a license has been granted for a large casino to be built at the NEC in Birmingham. In addition to a casino, the complex may also be soon to include a spa, multi-screen cinema, outlet stores and a hotel.

Solihull Council was one of the eight boroughs permitted to hand out a large casino license and is the second to do so after Newham awarded a license to Aspers.

The terms of the license means that the casino must have at least 1,000 sq metres set aside for table gambling and another 500 sq metres of non-gambling space. A maximum of 150 gambling machines or terminals are also allowed with the ability to offer a variety of games.

The construction and operation of the site will provide 1,700 jobs and according to Genting Casinos will: “add value to the region.”

Andy Mackiewicz, chairman of the Licensing Committee agreed and stated: “In granting this licence, many benefits and opportunities will be made available to the borough of Solihull.
