Las Vegas
A new terminal at the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada, is aiming to attract "quickie" visitors, according to news.com.au. The new terminal aims to market Las Vegas as a stopover destination for international visitors en route to Asia and other locations.
Korean Air currently flies from Las Vegas to Seoul three times a week and is hoping to increase this to daily flights. The company’s president of passenger marketing and sales, John Jackson III, reinforced the strong ties Korean Air has with Las Vegas, suggesting that they "see Las Vegas not just as an origin and destination point, but also as another hub".
However, critics of the new terminal have pointed out that because of new casino destinations such as Macau and Singapore, Las Vegas may no longer be as popular with visitors from Asia. Mo Garfinkle, of the aviation firm GCW Consulting, told the press that "the Asians don't need to come to Las Vegas to get Las Vegas-style gambling".
The terminal, which will open in June 2012, will span nearly 2 million square feet, and increase the airport’s capacity to 53 million passengers a year.
