UK Online Casinos
After years of planning, license applications and even a judicial review, Aspers Casino at Westfield Stratford City in London has opened its doors today.
The casino is the first of its kind in the UK having been granted a large casino license. This allows it to offer more casino games than any other casino in the country. Upon opening Aspers holds 40 tables, a 150-seat poker room, 80 electronic betting terminals and an extremely impressive 150 slots.
Having this vast number of games almost puts it on par with some of the online casinos around which regularly have more than 200 games on offer. Having said that, Aspers have some way to go if they want to compete with the 400+ games on offer at Spin Palace casino.
If you were hoping to be able to choose from that amount of games in a UK casino then you'll be disappointed by the news that the idea of a UK super casino is now very unlikely.
One-time plans for a 1,250 game casino were abandoned by Gordon Brown soon after he became Prime Minister. It was an issue that Tony Blair, who had backed the plans in the first place, revealed in his memoirs that he was very unhappy about.
So for the time being it looks as if we'll have to make do with large casinos rather than super ones, or go to Vegas of course.
