The Gambling Commission has released new survey data this week about the gambling habits of UK adults. The survey was collected in the year to June 2011 and was compared to 2009 and 2010.

Headline findings from the data include that more than half of those surveyed had gambled in the previous four weeks. National lottery tickets were, unsurprisingly, the most popular form of gambling while scratchcards, horse races, bingo and fruit/slot machines were also popular.

When it came to remote gambling there were no surprises when it was revealed that computers are the most popular choice. Other favourable ways to gamble remotely were mobile phones, which were second, and interactive TV, which was third.

Online gambling that didn't include betting saw an increase in popularity from 2010, but it is still down from the 2009 levels. The category, which includes poker, bingo, online slots and casino games, ranked above table games in a land based casino, organised poker, betting on dog races and spread betting.

The survey also found that those taking part in online gambling were more likely to be male and aged between 18 and 44.
