We've had Croupier, Casino and Ocean's Eleven, but no-one's yet made a movie about online gaming.

However, if rumours are to be believed both Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck are intending to work together on a project entitled Runner Runner, a story about the tumultuous relationship between a high-profile entrepreneur and his young protégé.

Renowned director Brad Furman is expected to be leading the production with Jennifer Davisson stepping in as co-producer – and it's also reported that Leonardo DeCaprio is looking to use the project for an opportunity to stretch his directorial legs for the first time.

Whilst high-stakes gaming will be a major theme, the precise nature of the story has not been made explicit, though the writers are not new to the topic: Experienced script developers Brian Kopleman and David Levien wrote the 1998 film Rounders, about a high-stakes poker player, starring – oddly enough – Affleck's long-standing friend and colleague Matt Damon.

With interest in all forms of gaming having increased exponentially in the intervening years due to the internet, there ought to be no shortage of interest. The Hollywood Reporter publication have stated that shooting is due to start in June, so fans can expect a release some time in 2013.
