World Series of Poker Europe
A customer services employee at well-known poker website, PKR, has beaten the pros and won his first World Series of Poker Europe (WSOE) tournament. Scott Shelley, who’s known to users at PKR as “PKR_Scott”, managed to successfully challenge several more seasoned players and win a £1,000 buy-in poker tournament at Empire Casino, in London. In the final rounds of the game, Shelley went up against WSOP veteran, JP Kelley, and managed to win his first WSOP bracelet, after beating Kelley with pocket threes. Shelley scooped an impressive prize of over £130,000 and admitted that he simply “can’t believe that” he “won a bracelet and a six figure cheque!”
Poker fans initially had Kelley as favourite to win the tournament; with most believing he’d smash a WSOP record in the process. Kelley had previously won two bracelets in the past and a third win would have made him the youngest ever player to win three WSOP titles. Speaking about Kelley, Shelley suggested that “he is one of the best British players. Of all the players at the table, he was by far the best — by a country mile.” Shelley also admitted his nervousness at going heads up against the poker pro, but proposed that “somehow” he “managed to win.”
