Poker Chips
Following the seizure of US facing online poker websites PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker, a number of player accounts have been frozen meaning that even legitimate British players may not be able to withdraw funds quickly.
The FBI seized a number of domain names relating to the poker companies last week and has posted a holding notice explaining the suspected crimes that have taken place. The US Department of Justice then froze a number of gambling accounts linked to the sites meaning that no money could be withdrawn from them. The reason for this sudden attack on online poker accounts is that they are suspected of being used for money laundering and fraud.
The poker sites are run from the Isle of Man, Dublin and the Caribbean and as a result, the US Attorney’s Office admitted to working with foreign law enforcement in order to be able to move towards making any kind of deal or prosecuting.
Fortunately for online gamblers in the UK, the use of internet casinos and other similar products remains entirely legal.
