Along with the large amount of unwanted attention that PokerStars has received since last week’s seizure of their domain comes questions regarding the political involvement of the company.
PokerStars have been accused of using a political action committee to hand out contributions during various political elections.
These handouts went to a number of Nevada political campaigns including $10,000 to Rory Reid, the Clark County Commissioner and son of Nevada Senator Harry Reid.
The handouts also included sponsorship of foreign trips for Nevada legislators and law-makers. Following the indictment of PokerStars, the links created through these contributions are coming under heavy scrutiny as foreign contributions aren’t allowed to be given to federal, state and local campaigns.
Chris Krafcik, editor of GamblingCompliance, argued during an online discussion that it’s unlikely that any US politician will be looking to get involved in online gambling in the near future.
With much speculation about the fallout of what has been called ‘Black Friday’, the political involvement of PokerStars is just one of the issues that is sure to receive much more coverage.
