With more than half an eye on the possible regulation of online gambling in US states, William Hill has acquired American Wagering Inc. This means that not only can they begin to operate land-based sportsbooks in Nevada, but that they will also be ideally placed should online gambling be legalised in the state.
the news that William Hill may well be fully set up in casino sportsbooks before the end of the year comes straight from the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC). Randolph Townsend, head of the NGC revealed that he expects them to "be in full operation in Nevada in the next couple of months".
William Hill expect to perform strongly in the Nevada sportsbook market as they plan to offer a much wider range of betting options than is currently available in the state. Their approval from the NGC means that they will be able to begin operating in partnership with land-based casinos on online products should the opportunity arrive. This will leave them with a significant head start in the race to set up the first legal US online gambling products.
