It seems we’ve had a spate of strange casino related stories over the past few weeks. Well, today’s blog post isn’t any different: Lori Pellin has been charged with animal abuse by police in St. Charles, Missouri, after it was revealed Pellin had left 27 animals in her car while visiting a casino. Pellin visited the Ameristar Casino in Missouri on Monday, but left 25 cats and two dogs in an barely ventilated Chevy Lumina. A fellow visitor at Ameristar Casino spotted the distressed animals and reported the matter to the police, who promptly charged Pellin on two counts of cruelty to animals.

St. Charles City Animal Control are currently caring for the animals and it’s believed they’ll be up for adoption in the next few days. Police Lieutenant Mike Akers has suggested that it’s lucky the animals were spotted and reported by a visitor. Akers also hinted at the reasons why Pellin was travelling with so many animals, suggesting that Pellin had informed the police that she had just been made homeless and planned on visiting the casino to look for an apartment. According to Akers, Pellin “also indicated she wanted to do a little bit of gambling”. St. Charles City Animal Control is currently welcoming donations to help care for the extra cats and dogs. If you’d like to make a donation, please call 636-949-3395.
