Anthony Michael Carleo is being tried for a number of charges following the theft of $1.5 million (£928,000) from the Bellagio Casino in December.

The robbery in Las Vegas occurred when a man with a motorbike helmet pulled up outside the front of the casino, went inside to the nearest table and demanded the money while holding a gun. However, Carleo was caught out last month when he confessed to an undercover police officer who he had already sold chips to that he had already robbed the Bellagio.

Potentially, Carleo could be tried for three counts of armed robbery, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of burglary and one of carry a concealed weapon. Forgetting all of the other charges for a minute, the prison time for just the armed robbery counts could be as much as 35 years.

Carleo’s bail was set at $1,000,000 (£620,000) by Justice of the Peace Ann Zimmerman and in addition to this he was placed under house arrest after having been bailed. With a court date due to be set in the future, prosecutors are compiling their evidence including a number of witness statements from Bellagio employees.
