An elderly Canadian couple have given away 98% of their £7,000,000 lottery win to churches, fire departments, cemeteries, the Red Cross, hospitals and their family.

Allen and Violet Large decided after winning the jackpot which amounts to CA $11,255,272, on Lotto 6/49 in July that they were quite happy with what they had so donated the vast majority to others. After having put away £130,000 of their £7,000,000 win for themselves, the couple chose a number of organisations to give money to including hospitals that have treated Mrs Large, who has cancer.

Mr Large has told reporters that they had decided to give away most of the money a week before they actually received the incredible amount. He said: "We have no plans. We’re not travellers. We’re not night-prowlers. We’re not bar-hoppers".

The couple had both worked in Nova Scotia for 30 years and had saved enough money to keep them happy through their retirement years but Mr Large admitted: "We weren’t millionaires". The couple’s generosity has attracted much media attention but Mr Large remained humble by adding: "We’re just plain, old country folks".
