Australia ban Betfair
Betfair CEO Andrew Twaits is apparently "outraged" at the recent news that Betfair.com has been blacklisted by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). It's been revealed by Wikileaks that the ACMA have blacklisted around 1,000 - 2,300 URLs and included in the list, alongside Betfair, is a dentists, a tour operator and a bus company, meaning that Australian web users won't be able to access the sites.
The ACMA have alleged that they've only blacklisted around 1,000 URLs, whereas Wikileaks have suggested around 2,300 URLs are banned, but if Betfair are included in either list, Australian gamers will no longer be able to access the sportsbook or online casino. The ACMA blacklist will also have a knock on effect for around the 14 filter companies currently used in Australia, who will have to implement the bans.
The ACMA have suggested Wikileaks release of the blacklisted URLs is highly irresponsible and have made veiled threats towards prosecution, it's as yet unclear the action, if any, Betfair will take.
