Following several debates with EU member states over the past year, including the Netherlands, it’s finally good news for Betfair, as they have been approved by French gaming authorities.

The French stamp of approval means that Betfair will be allowed to advertise to casino players and bettors in France, through both online and presumably offline advertising. eGaming Review Magazine has reported that the authorities may have open access to the lucrative French gaming market after intensive lobbying by Bernard Arnault, who owns an estimated 10% of the company.

While Betfair will apparently have to pay high taxes and face strict regulation, the company is said to be pleased with the news. While the company’s talks with the EU have been anything but smooth, this may prove a useful step in securing deals with other European countries.
