Betfair Review Past and Examine Future
Following the publication of Colin Cameron's You Bet, which examines Betfair's ten year history and how the company has grown from strength to strength, many members of the gambling industry are now having a quick "flutter" on Betfair's next move.
However, it's not just casino bigwigs who are trying to predict Betfair's next move. The Guardian have recently published their thoughts on the company, and while they seem to recognise Betfair as more of a bookmaker than a casino, Guardian columnist Greg Wood seems to believe that Betfair's next move will be to "crack" America.
Following in line with other British success stories, such as Dyson, and of course, the Beatles, according to Wood, Betfair have set their sights on the American gambling market, which is apparently sure to open up in the next few years. While the Bush's administrations UIGEA is still in force, Barney Frank's recent bill, as well as President Obama's coded "signals" to the gambling industry seem to suggest that the UIGEA will soon be a gambling nightmare of the past.
However, what Wood doesn't point out is that it hasn't always been easy for Betfair. As we have seen in the past few months, the company have had to deal with Australia banning Betfair's website and the Dutch Government trying to ban players from accessing the bookmakers and casino. If the UIGEA is lifted, while Betfair may have a shoe in the door because of their American TVG racing channel, we reckon it won't all be plain sailing for any gambling company, let alone Betfair.
