Betfair Launch Grassroots Sport Initiative
Betfair, who, as you may remember, donated a portion of their Australian betting revenue to the Victoria bushfires fund, are now focusing on matters a little more home-grown, such as their Cash4Clubs initiative. Betfair have so far given away around £30,000 to local sports facilities, groups and teams and plan to expand on this, with the help of other betting companies such as Ladbrokes and Sportech, by forming a sports trust.
As reported in The Times, it's believed the new partnership will raise around £10 million for underprivileged clubs and facilities. This new-found sports trust is hoping to attract other gambling operators, in the hope that this will in turn attract more funds. The Cash4Clubs initiative is now spreading across the UK and Betfair have said the following about the trust; "Betfair recognises the importance of community sport and in order to maintain its development, Cash4Clubs has been set up to facilitate fundraising for community sports clubs throughout the country."
It's not yet been revealed whether Ladbrokes and Sportech will work under the name of Betfair's "Cash4Clubs" initiative, but it's believed that the gambling operators have received Government backing and will be making an announcement on the scheme soon.
