Brighton Casino Sold for £2 Million

The former home of Sergeant Yorke’s casino in Brighton has been sold for an estimated £2 million, after the building’s owners went in to administration.
The property, which was once a thriving casino, was built in 1908 as a garage but became Sergeant Yorke’s casino in 1971. It then enjoyed a number of successful years but developed a reputation for housing a number of ghosts with a few casino employees claiming to have seen the ‘White Lady’ in the early hours of the morning after closing time.
After the casino was shut down, developers attempted to turn the building in to a 140 bedroom hotel to no avail and since then the property has remained derelict. The property was sold as a result of its owners, Colliers International, going into administration. The property company described it as a ‘rare opportunity’ for a central development.
The building is in an area which Brighton and Hove City Council recently prioritised as an area of regeneration for the city. The building itself is 150 metres away from Brighton train station and is described by the council as a ‘gateway to the city’.
