Casino Minors to be Fined

A brand new law will go into effect in Iowa soon, which will see minors fined $500 if they’re spotted attempting to enter a casino’s gaming area.

At the moment, current legislation for minors in casinos suggests that if an underage person is found in a casino’s gaming area, the casino will be rapped with a $20,000 fine.

However, this new law is more of an act of prevention than punishment, as Wes Ehrecke, President of the Iowa Gaming Association noted: “Our members work diligently to prevent underage access to casino gaming and to prevent minors from entering the gaming floor.” It’s believed that by enforcing the fine, many will be put off by the idea of facing a $500 fee for trying to access a casino.

Before, it was only the casino owners who were faced with a bill from the State, now though, both minors and the casino can face fines. All 17 state regulated casinos in Iowa will begin working with the local Government in order to educate the public about the new law.
