Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey, yesterday signed two new bills into law that legalised exchange wagering and single-pool wagering.

These changes are just two of the many that are currently taking place in New Jersey’s gambling industry with online gambling legislation also waiting on Governor Christie’s desk. The S-2229 and A-2926 bills are designed to allow bookmakers to offer exchange wagering and single-pool wagering options to their customers. The changes are designed to help rejuvenate the state’s struggling racing industry and signal the intent shown by Christie to make a difference in the state by reinventing the gambling industry as a whole.

The changes have meant that online gambling operators Betfair are able to enter the market after buying wagering network TVG in 2009. The London based company operate a number of online services including Betfair casino, bingo, poker and various trading products and will be looking to expand upon these by entering the New Jersey market.

A Betfair spokesman revealed that the company sees New Jersey as taking on a pioneering role in racing in particular. He added: “Betfair welcomes any opportunity to work with the New Jersey racing industry.”
