Harry Kakavas Lawsuits Continue

Harry Kakavas, an Australian businessman currently suing Crown Casino for allowing him to wager in the casino, even though he apparently suffers a gambling addiction, has become embroiled in another lawsuit. Paradise Island Casino is suing Mr Kakavas over a $1 million casino marker they offered him while he was in his honeymoon in 2006.

Paradise Island Casino, which is located in the Bahamas, offered Kakavas the huge marker as he had recently sold his home on the Gold Coast for $18 million. Whilst at the casino, Kakavas proceeded to wager up to $43,500 per hand on baccarat games. Kakavas’ “gambling spree” amounted to a loss of $1.6 million, $600,000 of which was his own money.

The casino is now trying to recoup the loan, however Kakavas’ lawyers are suggesting that Paradise Island “took advantage” of the businessman’s addiction. The casino has in turn argued that to them, Kakavas appeared as a normal high-roller gambler and there was nothing in his behaviour which would suggest an addiction.

The trail will continue tomorrow, at the Victoria Supreme Court. Kakavas’ lawsuit against Crown Casino is also ongoing.
