Histon Football Club Threatened by Gambling Ring

Histon football club, located in Cambridge, UK, have revealed how they have lived in fear following a draw with Lewes FC last year. Both teams are part of the Blue Square Premier team and it's believed that as soon as Lewes took a "surprise lead", the first of 38 threatening and generally disturbing phone calls to Histon FC officials began.

It's believed that Histon FC had become unwillingly embroiled in a gambling ring, which had seen large sums of money wagered on a Histon win. Soon after the match ended, club president Peter Betson was plagued with several threatening phone calls which suggested that if he didn't hand over £100,000 the team would be ambushed and shot.

Six hours after the match, Betson's car was blown up and the club secretary was informed that her house would soon be petrol bombed and was advised to leave. Cambridge police have located the calls as coming from Merseyside and have handed over details of the case to the Merseyside police.
