Incompetent Burglar Banned From Betting Shops

A man who has been named an “incompetent thief” by a Judge has narrowly avoided prison and has instead been banned from “hanging around” bookmakers.

Stacey Hill of Huthwaite, admitted in court that he was a gambling addict and planned on carrying out a burglary in order to fund his habit. On the 4th of April, at 2.10am, two policemen spotted Hill carrying a carrier bag, as well as an object protruding from his jacket. The police found that Hill was carrying a wheel brace, as well as a hammer, items commonly considered as the core part of a “burglar’s kit”.

When sentencing Hill, Judge Stokes suggested Hill was an “incompetent thief” and that the accused was asking the Judge to take a “gamble” on him. While noting that Ladbrokes wouldn’t give “very good odds” on Hill staying out of trouble, Judge Stokes imposed a 12 month community order and a ban from bookmakers.

Hill’s sentencing has come under fire by local residents, who believe that it’s only a matter of time before 36 year old Hill attempts another burglary, noting that he already has 68 convictions, including ones for burglary and theft.
