Las Vegas Gambles on CityCenter

The ailing Las Vegas casino industry has admitted that they are gambling on the future success of the new CityCenter complex. The $8.5 billion building, which features 5,900 hotel rooms, a casino and a shopping centre will make Las Vegas history as one of the biggest gambling venues ever built in the United States.

However, due to the economic crisis, revenues are down in a city which is built on tourists and gamblers. With less Americans and international tourists visiting the gambling capital, building and construction work has ground to halt, jobs have been lost and room prices slashed.

Tony Alamo of the Nevada Gaming Commission suggested that the success or failure of the CityCenter will indicate the future of Las Vegas. Speaking to the owners of the MGM Mirage and Dubai World, Alamo suggested that the CityCenter and its potential revenue affects “not just the company, it's the state.”
