A poll published by the Fairleigh Dickinson University has found that Americans still favour Las Vegas as their number one casino destination. Overwhelmingly, 54% of the adults polled mentioned Las Vegas first when they were asked to consider gaming destinations in the United States, with just 7% suggesting that Atlantic City was the first location they thought of with regards to gambling. The poll also asked for opinions on other casinos, including Foxwoods in Connecticut and Chicagoland in Illinois, with visitors offering favourable opinions for both destinations. The only gaming location which fared badly in the public opinion polls was Detroit, with just 17% of those asked offering a favourable opinion on the gaming establishments located there and 32% offering negative ones.

Alongside the polls on land-based casinos, Fairleigh Dickinson University also found that 67% opposed changing current laws in the United States to legalise online gambling. While the university didn’t note a political split between those who wished to legalise online gambling and those who preferred to stick with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), men were twice as likely to favour legalising internet betting, when compared with women. The poll was conducted as part of the university’s PublicMind project and 1,001 adults were asked for their opinions.
