Local Residents Support Planned Mohegan Sun Casino
Residents in Palmers, Springfield, have spoken out about plans for a casino in the area, suggesting that they will back it, provided it offers employment. On Monday, residents gathered to discuss the opportunities a casino would bring to the area, with Paul I. Brody, an employee of the Mohegan Sun (who are planning to open a casino in Springfield), suggesting their development would bring 1,000 jobs.
Initially, the majority of residents were against the plans for a casino, but the announcement that it could potentially regenerate the area has swayed opinion. Gerald R. Chudy, who spoke to MassLive.com, suggested that if it means more jobs, entertainment and retail space, then the casino will be a welcome development.
