Earlier this year we reported that Las Vegas hotel and casino resorts were dramatically slashing prices in order to attract tourists. Well, today we can reveal that not only are casinos cutting hotel room prices, they’re also lowering the minimum table limit on games such as blackjack.
The Las Vegas Sun has reported that casinos are now aware that in order to stay afloat, they need to keep the games as cheap as possible, as tourists simply no longer have the money to spend all day playing $1 slot machines or $100 blackjack. At Wynn Las Vegas for example, the minimum blackjack bet was $50 per hand; it’s now $25.
By slashing their prices, casinos are quietly hoping they’ll be able to attract more business. However, they’ve been all but open about the new table limits. Speaking to The Las Vegas Sun, Harrah’s Entertainment Western Region President Tom Jenkin suggested that Harrah’s “have not nor are we planning to lower table game limits.” However, The LV Sun has taken this comment to suggest that while Harrah’s and other casinos haven’t lowered maximum table limits, they’ve certainly lowered their minimum limits.
While the blackjack tables in Vegas may now seem more appealing, the rules have also been modified, so that blackjack payouts are less and the house has a significant advantage. For example, while blackjack usually has a payout of 3-2, on certain lower limit games it now pays out 6-5, which means the player wins less.
