Following a dispute concerning their October 2005 deal, Marvel Enterprises and casino software developer, Cryptologic, have made a deal that will see the partnership extend to 2014 and certain aspects of the contract to be rewritten.

The original deal, which has seen a number of Marvel Comics characters appear in Cryptologic online slots, has been redrawn so that the licensing agreement has changed. Originally Cryptologic, providers of software to Intercasino, claimed that the 2005 contract stated that they had sole rights to develop Marvel-branded casino games and that this had not been the case as other software developers used were using the brands.

The new deal not only extends the contract by 12 months but it also ensures that Cryptologic are not the only software developer allowed use the Marvel themes. This has meant a reduction in the price that Cryptologic has to pay Marvel as they no longer have exclusive rights.

Cryptologic have released 17 online slots using the Marvel themes which have gone onto become extremely popular in their online casinos. Rival software developer Playtech have also recently struck a deal with a subsidiary of Marvel based in the Netherlands which allows them to create Marvel casino, poker and bingo products.

The new deals have meant that all of Marvel’s characters are available to Playtech and Cryptologic, including new titles using The Avengers and other characters are soon to be released.
