The official launch of the US Online Gaming Association (USOGA) took place yesterday at the International Casino Exhibition (ICE) in London.

The new organisation is looking to fulfil a similar role to that of iMEGA, but with a specific focus on online gambling. The organisation will be led by Melanie Brenner, the former executive director of the Poker Voters of America lobby group and will be calling upon support from all areas of the online gambling industry.

Already reported to have offered their services are PKR, Sportingbet and Secured American Games. Brenner confirmed that these companies have agreed to provide some form of financial and technical support to aid USOGA in their operations.

Brenner was supported by catalysts for the New Jersey online gambling bill, Bill Pascrell III and Joe Brennan Jr at ICE. Pascrell, while content with the progress of the New Jersey bill, added that they would be looking to push for some form of federal legislation concerning online gambling in the US.

However, Brenner seemed unsure at the possibility of federal legislation and added: “The opening of the lucrative US market will be through state capitals.”

She also said that the amount of backing and links to the industry would mean that USOGA would be: “the most effective voice in moving this issue.
