After winning £130,000, Newcastle United’s owner Mike Ashley managed to leave a Newcastle casino just less than £1 million down.

This wild gambling streak took just three hours with Ashley being accompanied on his trip to Aspers casino by Newcastle United’s manager Alan Pardew. It began with Ashley quickly winning £130,000, but his luck soon change with the next two hours at a craps table seeing him lose £970,000.

Despite this, Ashley’s spirits remained high as the football tycoon, reported to be worth £890 million, still tipped the dealer £700.

A source that was at the casino at the time said: “After a couple of hours he was £130,000 up.”

After this, he reportedly went to the bar and had a drink with Pardew and the football club’s managing director Derek Llambias. However, soon after, Ashley returned and began to bet foolishly by placing £1,000 and £5,000 chips on all sorts of craps bets and even covering the table at some stages.

The source from the casino added: “It’s not unusual for Ashley or other Newcastle United people to be in the casino, but it is unusual for them to have a night like this.”
