Online Casino Launched in British Columbia
British Columbia
The British Columbia government has announced a new range of online casino games, which are available in the jurisdiction’s flagship casino, PlayNow.com. The government’s decision to offer casino games, which can be played for real money, is the first instance of a jurisdiction in North America legalising online gambling. It’s believed that the new casino will be formally announced by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) President, Michael Graydon, later today. The casino’s new website suggests that there will be a variety of games available, ranging from slots to blackjack. It also looks likely that the Play Now casino will introduce a $10 no deposit bonus, to help players become accustomed to the new online casino.
While the move has been seen by some in the casino industry as the first steps towards legalising online gambling completely in North America, and in turn, in the United States, others have criticised the B.C government’s expansion plans. According to a report from News1130, some Vancouver citizens believe that the new online casino is little more than an “irresponsible money grab”. However, it’s believed that the new Play Now casino will promote responsible gambling, with clear, visible links to support groups for those who believe they may have a gambling problem. BCLC is currently working with other provinces in North America, which has led the Vancouver Sun to suggest that the government could help create a “nationwide online gambling network”.
