With the news that the pressure is on with regards to legalising online gambling in the United States, PartyGaming has made a key purchase which could make or break the company’s US success.

PartyGaming, which is the company behind the likes of PartyCasino and PartyPoker, has purchased World Poker Tour (WPT) Enterprises for $12.3m. The company, which is based in the United States and operates the media aspects of WPT, such as television shows and consumer products, is a well-known brand in the US. Speaking about the deal, a PartyGaming spokesperson revealed that “PartyGaming has had a long association with WPT, and we think this deal marks a great combination of two global brands.”

While PartyGaming has always been vocal about moving into the US market, the company’s purchase of WPT shows how they’re ready to build links with the gaming industry in the United States. It’s believed that online gambling will be legalised in the United States within the next few years, however there has been speculation that the Government will only allow operators established in the US, such as MGM and Harrah’s, to offer online gaming to citizens. PartyGaming’s acquisition of a strong US brand seems to suggest that they too believe it’s best to build links now and establish a Statewide presence as soon as possible.
