Mount Airy Casino Resort has been fined $100,000 for six incidents involving underage gamblers. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board unanimously agreed on the fine, which penalises Mount Airy Casino for six incidents between July – November 2009. Gambling laws in the state note that it’s illegal for under 21s to play slot machines and under 18s to access any area of the gaming facility. However, in July, Mount Airy Casino allowed two under 21s to play slot machines in the casino and another 18 year old to wager on the slots available, in the same month. The casino was also fined for four other incidents, including a case in November 2009 when a 20 year old male played slots and was served alcohol from the resort’s bar.

Alongside the fine, Mount Airy Casino Resort have also purchased eight new security machines, which will check whether certain forms of photographic identification are valid, making it easier for casino employees to stop underage customers entering the casino. At the time of press, Mount Airy have yet to make a comment on the ruling and fine. In the past two years, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has fined casinos in the area nine times, bringing the total fine amount (statewide), to over $300,000.
