The British Columbia casino, PlayNow.com, has re-launched, after a security bug meant the site had to be pulled offline. The casino has now reappeared online and the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has reassured visitors that all errors have now been fixed. After the bug was discovered, the BCLC commissioned an external review into the casino software and after five days of testing, consulting firm Deloitte were able to re-create the problem and solve it. The BCLC president, Michael Graydon, has suggested that no similar security issues should occur at the casino, but admitted that the corporation will have “to work hard to rebuild” players’ trust.

The online casino launched back in July, but was soon taken offline when a security error meant that users could gamble with other players’ cash. Sensitive information from 12 accounts was also accidentally made available to other players and the BCLC soon pulled the casino. In late July, the Assistant Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Elizabeth Denham, issued a stark warning to the BCLC, suggesting that the corporation could not re-launch the casino until a full external review of the software had been completed. According to some sources, the casino security breach may have cost the BCLC up to $5 million.
