Poker Players Take Card Rooms to Court

Alongside the news that Betfair are planning on taking the Dutch Government to court, it's recently been revealed that several poker players are planning on taking 5 card rooms in Las Vegas to court over alleged "loser jackpots".

The players alleged that the LA rooms were promoting "loser-jackpots", in which players can scoop a jackpot, if they lose enough money whilst playing poker. The buy-in for the majority of the poker rooms accused totals in at $1 and from this a prize pool is created in which the loser-jackpots are drawn from. The amateur poker players allege that the loser jackpots often total more than the winnings and have accused card rooms such as the Bicycle Club and Hustler that players are often forced to play at tables where the loser jackpot is actively promoted.

These loser-pot promotions are currently illegal in LA and it's believed that the card rooms could lose millions if found guilty. Those who are accused though, shrug off the claims, suggesting that the poker players just want to "sue somebody".
