Police Uncover Cockfighting Gambling Ring

Police in Texas have arrested 176 people on charges relating to gambling and cruelty to animals, after they uncovered underground cockfights taking place in Poolville. Police believe the person behind the cockfights is Roy Dale Saxton, who allegedly charged $20 admission and housed over 100 birds.

Six animals were found dead on the scene and a further 100 have been taken to a nearby animal shelter. Saxton, who was released from jail after paying a $300 fine, is believed to have even offered a raffle, which featured a top prize of “a new motor home equipped with living quarters and rooster cages for travelling game breeders”. Cockfighting is illegal in all US states and is classed as a criminal offence in Texas.
