Boardwalk Empire

Sunday night saw the premier of new HBO television series Boardwalk Empire take place at Caesars Casino Resort in Atlantic City. It’s hoped by many in the Atlantic City casino industry that the airing of this series will breathe new life in to this gambling haven.

It's no secret that Atlantic City casinos have fallen on hard times in the last couple of years as many resort owners, including Steve Wynn, have looked to jump ship and sell their New Jersey assets. However, it’s hoped that the airing of Boardwalk Empire, which is set in Atlantic City during the prohibition era, will encourage viewers to visit the New Jersey city to experience some of the excitement shown in the new HBO series.

With the first episode being directed by Martin Scorcese and starring Steve Bruscemi, the television series certainly has a good pedigree and promises to entertain audiences across America. Many television and gaming analysts also suspect that the series could also rekindle the fortunes of this once great town. “Atlantic City was once considered to be the Las Vegas of the East Coast”, said Brad Dawkins. The gaming analyst also added that this series could halt the current trend of other north-eastern areas catching up with the Atlantic City casino industry.
