Only a few weeks ago we reported that Disney had purchased Marvel and that, whether the Mickey Mouse themed company likes it or not, they had become involved in the online gaming industry. Well, today we learnt that Sega, the home of Sonic the Hedgehog and other classic video games, will be launching an online casino and poker room.
Whilst details are meant to be firmly under wraps at the moment, it’s been revealed that a Sega Casino has been in the works for a while and a cashier has even appeared online. While SegaCasino.com isn’t up as yet, a quick sleuth online suggests that Sega Casino will offer a €400 welcome bonus and a monthly reload bonus. Slots players will also be pleased to learn there may well be a “Super Slot Sundays” promotion.
Anyway, internet investigating aside, gaming industry experts have been busy speculating about what Sega can bring to the online casino world since the newas first broke earlier today.
The most obvious choice seems to be that Sega will offer casino and poker sites packed with Sonic, Jet Set Radio and Golden Axe themed games. However, if Sega does indeed head down this route, they’ll no doubt feel the wrath of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). Back in 2008, the ASA wrapped Littlewoods Casino on the knuckles for using advertisements featuring Spider-Man, so who knows how the Quango (a quasi-autonomous national government organisation, don’tcha know) will feel about adverts featuring the likes of Sonic and Knuckles.
It’s believed that the Sega Casino and poker room will appear online by October the 1st. It appears that websites related to the new casino include SegaCasino.com, SegaPoker.com and SegaDrive.com. You can check out what we think would be the best Sega Casino games by reading our blog.
