Tennis Pros Suspended for Gambling
Four tennis players have been suspended by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour, after it was revealed that they gamble online.
The tennis players, Giorgio Galimberti, Alessio Di Mauro, Potito Starace and Daniele Bracciali, who are all from Italy, are alleging that they’ve been treated as “scapegoats” in order to promote ATP’s “anti-corruption program” and have taken the case to court, in an attempt to appeal the suspension. Furthermore, they have admitted to gambling online, but suggest they only wagered with “small stakes”.
All 4 tennis players are also claiming that details of their bets were released by Interwitten, an online betting company, to ATP so the sportsbook could strike a lucrative sponsorship deal with the tennis association. As the case continues, we’ll make sure to keep you updated.
